Heavy Rain & Intense Wind

Protecting Your Facility Starts Before the Storm

When heavy rain is in the forecast, the little things make the biggest difference in keeping residents safe and your property protected. A quick walkthrough before and after the storm can prevent costly damage and hazards.

Before the Storm:

  • Clear drainage ditches so water can move away from buildings and parking areas

  • Clean gutters and downspouts to prevent overflow and roof leaks

  • Secure outdoor items— patio furniture, bird feeders and windchimes outside resident rooms, planters, and other décor that can be blown into and breaking windows

  • Check window seals and door sweeps for potential water intrusion

  • Move sensitive items away from low‑lying or flood‑prone areas

After the Storm:

  • Inspect ditches and gutters again for new blockages

  • Inspect roof for missing shingles and buckles where water may have blown underneath.

  • Check windows, screens, and trim for leaks or wind damage

  • Walk the property for debris, fallen limbs, or items blown onto pathways and parking lots

  • Look for pooling water near foundations, sidewalks, and entrances

  • Verify outdoor electrical fixtures are dry and functioning safely

  • Outside furniture and decor should be returned to its place. Remember to add bird seed for the resident.
